This happened about an hour ago and I'm still processing exactly what took place. I know it might come off as petty, but sometimes the little things make all the difference. This took place in the deep south and involves a traditional conservative type woman.

It all began when I made an information seeking phone call regarding a contract I am under that will be expiring soon. The very attractive woman on the other end of the line (I have met this person) was super professional until I inquired about taking certain actions that I thought sounded reasonable and not in breach of contract. She proceeded to frantically express how dire and law breaking my situation would become if I took such actions. I immediately became fairly uncomfortable with her tone and implication that I would be unlawful scum of the earth. Her elevated state really struck a chord with me and I said "dude, it's ok" trying to calm the situation, and "I'm just looking to get all the information". She replied with a very long "ooook" and the phone call ended shortly after on an odd note after she tried to reframe.

After the call ended, I realized my use of "dude" really threw her off and negated any threat to me she thought she was posing by treating her exactly the same way I would a man. This type of infantile, fear-based behavior from young women has become abhorrent to me, it's nice to know that there's a simple, one word equalizer.
