Men can take care of themselves and after being with their wife are probably happy to be alone again. Women cant stand being alone because they cant take care of themselves really.

Those kind of women are gone.

If there are any single women that age, there is something wrong with them.

Sometimes the wife was sick for years, that is very draining. The may also want to avoid that again.

Well, that's how women view men. It's just simple evolutionary psychology. When the average life span was 25 years and a woman physically needed male protection to survive, the females that mourned too long did not survive to pass on their genes.
