^ That's for the common chimps. The bonobos have a lot of incest going on.

The chimps likely want to avoid in-breeding. This mating behavior gives them the best chance of introducing new DNA into their group.

All apes do it. Unlike monkeys where its males who are leaving the group.

In a harsh environment women have to stick with the winner for protection. In our environment women can collect alimony and leave.
