It’s kinda always been a thing. It’s just easier now to find like-minded folks. But, it’s not as if the internet were to disappear tomorrow, people would suddenly change their minds about women.

Yes, it has always existed, but the internet is like fuel being thrown on a fire, it is showing men, especially young men, that there is a better way:

Self Validation
Self Improvement
Happiness being alone

You don't need women to be happy, you were only taught that by social programming. Learn to go your own way.

People know and sort of discover the MGTOW mindset on their own through many experiences, but the internet makes it easy for us to find more information and examples and to give us a place to share our thoughts. In short, yes it would still exist without it. Which is the beauty of it :)

YES. This sub is only broadens what many of us already knew but didn't know that others knew as well.

By nature, a man going his own way would not need the sub to figure out much of the obvious.

Yes, I was MGTOW before I bought my first PC in 1995 and signed up for AOL. Back then, it was not called "MGTOW". It was called "stay away from her...she's up to no good".

MGTOW will always exist to some degree within any population, but it's still a pretty small percentage of said population anywhere.

I'm not sure it really qualifies as a movement. It's more a symptom of what many men perceive as an unfair playing field where the men put all their worth on the line so women can use a biased legal system to then fleece him to whatever degree the lawyers can muster so they get their cut.

You can choose to believe this or not, but I decided on this lifestyle independently(as in without knowing it was a sociological movement). I just decided that this was how I wanted to live. I actually came to reddit because someone sent me a link to a reddit post with what was billed as “the most perfect pair of tits ever”(I didn’t agree, but I was hooked on the free tits anyway). Since then, I’ve wandered around the subs and found this sub which is when I found out about the movement if you will.

So yes, I think there have always been men not beholden to women(or other men I suppose) and there always will be.

My father's partner was MGTOW. Right after WWII his wife left him and he had to take care of 3 sons. He never remarried and avoided women. All he did outside of work was to buy properties and rent them out. The year he was retiring he sold them all off. He was set. Two weeks before retiring he felt stomach pain so severe he went to the ER. Two days before retirement he calls my father and tells him it is not good. He died that night from cancer in his pancreas and liver. His son's and their wives took his keys and raided my father's business. There was a lot of items and paperwork missing. The boys all lost their wives to divorce. The one I still see is now in his 70s and is barely getting by in life. And he is so blued pill it is not even funny.

As others have said, it was harder to find like-minded people, but I can imagine connections being made at things like Dale Carnegie seminars in the past.
