I've never seen this as anything but bad advice. If something is wrong with your life you need to address it. "Letting go" doesn't stop your house being on fire. Ignoring the wound just allows it to fester.

If you really want to be happy you have to intellectually and emotionally debride yourself. You have to dig through the muck that is your life and identify what is to be thrown away and what is worth keeping.

If you want to improve who you are you can't ignore your mistakes. Hell, you don't just own them either. You have to squeeze every useful lesson out of your mistakes. Only then can you truly set aside your bad memories and embarrassing moments. Learn everything you can from them and they will never hold sway over you again.

I do understand the mindfullness meditation of monks but here is the part most people don't get:

THEY LIVE A MINIMALIST LIFESTYLE!

They don't have to think about how much their house is on fire because they don't have a house. They don't have to think about how much their career and social life is falling apart because they don't have those things!

Mindfullness meditation works for those that have not cultivated a life that requires constant upkeep. Another way of putting this is "Life isn't difficult, You are." You chose to have a complicated life whether you are aware of it or not.

So, what you have to do is choose. less problems leads to less overthinking or maintainance of your lifestyle and understand that you are juggling that lifestyle and it is no one else's responsibility but yours or, keep building that fragile deck of cards and understand that you will always have anxiety in your life.

Seriously, so many people cultivate this overly complicated lifestyle and then start crying about how complicated their lives are. It makes me feel like common sense is no longer that common anymore...

I do hope it comes across that I am not saying to "Just stop it!" or "just pick yourself up by your bootstraps!"

No, what I am trying to say is if you truly want to be happy and cultivate a life you want THEN YOU CANNOT RUN AWAY FROM IT. You have a face everything that you are head on and sift through the rubble until all that left is a fully functional human being.
