I'm not at all surprised by the "more brain activity" thing in women. The important thing to remember is that this study doesn't state exactly WHAT is causing all that brain activity.

For example:

Someone of the opposite sex says "Hi" to a male

Brain processes message recognizes it as a greeting generates a response worthy of such interaction.

It seems the reason their brains are so active is because it's in overdrive constantly compensating for these behavior short comings and instability. The poor brain is trying to keep her from totally going of the rails bat shit insane.

So um this might be important...

Women are better at impulse control and have an advantage in the emotional and mood/anxiety areas of the brain
Women are also more prone to eating disorders, insomnia, anxiety, and depression

How are women worse than men at the things they are better than men at?

Kind of makes me think that increased activity does not mean increased capability. The thing is... when I'm very well prepared for an exam, my brain doesn't work very hard. When I'm not, brain is kicking ass and reving hard. I'm pretty ignorant on brain science, but I'm just thinking maybe 'women are awesome and also victims' might not be the most accurate lesson to learn from this.
