Recently I've been trying to educate myself on economics, specifically capitalism, because of all the talk about socialism and where it seems we are headed I just can't understand why people wouldn't want capitalism. The one argument I'm really hung up on is the effects it has on the environment because granted we all live here and it wouldn't be good for anyone, rich or poor, if we all lived in a world headed for self destruction because of environmental damage. But I can't see that to be the case. If tomorrow all the animals besides us were wiped out because of mass hunting would that be a problem? We already have animal harvesting plants for cattle where we get our food to survive so the natural world of those we haven't already put into sometime of farm seems redundant. If all the tree were harvested and none were left except those we kept for aesthetics in our front yard would it matter? If all the minerals on the planet were mined would it matter? I just seems like people are really concerned about the environmental impacts of capitalism when in reality I can't understand why anyone really cares.
