Its based on observation. Women with a lot of partners tend to be more "emotionally damaged" than those that aren't and have trouble forming lasting relationships.

Also some "scientific" evidence that multiple partners reduces capacity to pair bond. Yes, pair bonding is a thing. In prairie voles.
Look, obviously sex is a shared experience that can bring two people closer. But it's a little ridiculous to say it affects women significantly differently in heterosexual couples.
And apart from one questionable comment, they didn't really gender anything in that marriage study either. I think it's largely BS, but even IF more partners makes you more likely to be dissatisfied with your marriage, that's going to impact both men and women and everyone else on the gender spectrum.

For men it's not bad. I'm at about 30, but I know some girls I've been with are at the over 100 mark. But when I think about how much time and money invested (at least 1 or 2 dates per girl) 30 seems pretty high. It's definitely easier for a woman to get over 100 than a guy, so again, 15 for a guy imo is somewhat "participating in hookup culture".
