I have a concealed carry license, and a really nice Sig Sauer p238 that I still haven't shot. I don't carry, because I don't go out other than to/from work, and I work on a military installation where federal law says it's currently illegal to bring personal firearms.

I've read Congress is working on amending federal laws regarding personal firearms on bases, leaving it up to base commander discretion (which I still doubt would change anything due to his/her liability in permitting it).

Smuggling weapons on base is not worth the risk to my career at this point. So, I conceal carry my street sense. Has kept me trouble free so far. Military uniform probably doesn't hurt.

Ideally, I'd prefer open carry, just because concealed carry is a pain for fit guys who don't like wearing bulky clothing. I've worn open carry when I lived in New Mexico, no problem at all.

While I support open carry, I'd prefer conceal carry. Open carry just puts a huge target on your back if you were ever in a situation where there was a subject willing to do harm to others in a public place you would be their first target because they you know have a weapon. Now given the circumstance of the situation it might just deter them from committing that crime because they see you have a weapon to defend yourself and others. But imagine the mind set of a criminal, they're scared of not knowing who has a weapon to defend themselves and who doesn't. That's why conceal carry would be a better option. You would have the upper hand in a life threatening self defense situation because the suspect has no idea that you're carrying. But if you do carry, I also highly suggest carrying an LtL(Less than lethal) OC spray, taser just in case you're in a condition yellow situation and lethal wasn't necessary but you just needed to get away.

LOL you will always get up votes with gun porn, that never gets old. Open carry is the way to go if you live in a good oc state, you can mitigate the target on your back if you choose a small caliber small pistol like the one shown here and wear clothes that blend it in. The problem with cc permits is you are legally trading away your second amendment rights by asking for permission to carry.
