On one hand it is a good idea.

On the other, this might encourage more false accusations of abuse.

NOT a "WIN" for men by any means

Mixed bag at best:

When a custody dispute evolves out of a divorce proceeding, Arkansas law says custody is to be awarded according to the best interest of the child without regard to the parent's gender.

But when custody disputes involve children born out of wedlock, custody of those children are automatically assigned to the mother and in turn require fathers to jump through hoops just to establish basic parental rights.

Basically the bill is thus more of a "marriage entrapment" bill than it is actual "equality" for fathers.

Keep in mind this is still the same old "best interests of the child" bullshit... which is a VERY subjective thing. WHICH "interests of the child" are given priority? And what does "best interests" mean? All depends on who you're asking... and what biases they're using.

The whole "without regard to the parent's gender" can -- and very likely WILL -- end up just being a meaningless "lip service" phrase... great in theory, but dubious or worse in actual practice.

Also, this is JUST a "bill"... it hasn't even made it through any "committees"; or been brought up for a vote, much less has it passed into law.

If more states don't start doing this, our birth rate is going to sink even lower.
