Criminalizing false accusers will nip potential false accusations in the bud. Instead of trying to appease false accusers into confessing after the damage has been done, a better solution is to deter their lying (and ruining innocent lives) altogether. Why? Because if false accusers know that recanting will spare them from any/all consequences, just what is going to deter such a tactic from becoming standard procedure?
I should stress that a false accusation be defined as one where the accuser knowingly lied (as corroborated by evidence) and/or has been proven as a negative (again, as corroborated by evidence). Examples of evidence being an accuser who contradicts themselves, or video footage of one's location during a specified time period. This bar would account for inconclusive cases.
Real victims won't come forward, you say? Well, having false accusations go unchecked will only embolden false accusers while discrediting real victims, thereby discouraging said real victims from coming forward. Not to mention how it will result in more real victims once the actual criminals learn that said real victims have lost credibility due to their opportunistic, amoral counterparts. Oh, and let's not forget our primary victims either: the innocent, falsely accused males who stand to lose everything on her word alone.
False accusations are rare, you say? Okay. But that line of thinking begs a question: if you view his life as little more than collateral damage (insert 2% statistic here), then why should he care about your career, safety, etc.? Why show honor to those who have none?
What do you guys think?
