My first commander committed suicide because of false accusations from his ex wife. He was a leader, the kind of guy you would follow anywhere. When I was the most junior guy in my squadron he would be my PT partner, because he wanted me to see what a leader was.

He was going to get his star and move up to the Pentagon. His wife divorced him because she liked their current location. He shrugged and moved on... but she couldn't stand that. So she leveled all kinds of horrible things... his promotion stalled, his career ended, there was talk of demoting him... and he killed himself.

Only then did she admit she was lying.

Edit: She never filed a police report so got away with it... she just made sure she "confided" in the right people. Appearances are incredibly important in the military, so even a rumor can destroy a career. We were all called into an assembly after a few weeks where Chaplins were made available, the current commander (on of the former CC's best friends) tried to be inspirational, but he was broken from it... but the ex actually tried to get on stage to share her condolences about how hard this time was for everyone... I guess the hate she was seeing on everyone's faces were enough that she got on stage, saw everyone, and walked off.

FDS is fine as long as their personal space isn't attacked, like with the Biden accuser that was clearly lying because he's... well, she was just lying.
