so I'm a CPA working in tax, and one of my clients wrote to me demanding to know why she is being taxed on her ex-husbands alimony payments.

I told her that alimony received is treated as income to her, and is tax deductible to her ex.

her response was "So I have to shoulder his tax burden???"

apparently, she figured should would essentially receive free money... 35k a year.

and this was after receiving the house, and an additional 300k in a non-taxable property settlement from her ex. No children, luckily for him (child support is not tax deductible)

the government clearly cares about you, sweetheart... but not more than it cares about itself.

many of my (male) clients' wives left them this year.. a lot of alimony going one way (I bet you can guess which).

guess the ladies realized that they had maxed out their marital prizes, and it was time to cash out.

go your own way, brothers.. there's nothing for you here
