I don't understand how multiplayer games are even popult anymore. EA/Activision milk the shit out of theirs and have such a balancing algorithm that pure skill really doesn't exist anymore. Halo 5 is arguably better than 4 but not to the scale of 2 or 3 and the MCC collection is broken. Ubisoft over exaggerates and usually can't live up plus community nonsense. Fortnite is fundamentally a broken game never played pubg. I have no idea on racing, third person stuff like Gears, or Ghost Recon but I would recommend to go play Killing Floor 2, or Red Orchestra 2 instead. Also single player games especially RPGs > these shitty multiplayer games now.

I always recommend games that have a level designer like Doom, or Little Big Planet, or Farcry to get multiplayer creation kit they don't get bogged down with loot boxes generally. Fighting games try a couple and put some investment into one and get really good (not sure online I just play local)

This gen alone I played BF4, and bit of Overwatch as heavily focused MP followed up with FF 14 an MMO when I felt like paying. I just go back to Unreal and Quake all the time.

This is the biggest problem with the game? Are they serious? The game is dying due to all the friendly fire griefing that's going on and this is what they put time in?
