I was having dinner with my young daughter this evening. Across from the restaurant was a spa place, its windows advertising various "hot rock massage" and "cucumber facial" services.

My daughter asked me "Daddy, why do people go to a spa?" I was going to start with a disclaimer to not be fooled by the posters which showed both men and women, but know that the clientele was primarily women, but I skipped that part.

and I had to think for a minute... finally I came up with

"They like the attention."

-data source: "69% of spa clients are female, 54% are married" https://www.slideshare.net/bongholio/find-your-balance-san-luis-obispo-spa-vacation

-data source: "medical" reasons was a reason given by 52% of customers, while "relaxation, pampering, wellness, pregnancy" was a reason given by 49% https://www.statista.com/statistics/252845/primary-reason-for-receiving-a-massage-in-the-us/ (a couple other options were there too, like injury/rehab, adding up to a total of around 140%, so multiple answers must have been allowed) My guess? Dudes are there because their backs are injured.
