I live near there too, probably most people in "the north" (of England) do as most of the big cities here flank it. So it's not exactly remote now with cars, but once you get off the main roads it can be very quiet and peaceful and wild feeling. Pre-car days it would have been remote.

Even Snowdonia where I've been recently felt too accessible now by car. It was tourist season so that accounts for a lot of it (I bet it feels deserted in winter), but sad that think it was once the landscape that held back Romans and English armies for a time and was considered wild and inaccessible. Now it has cars and tourists blighting it.

Is that current? I live in Moscow and Moscow is nothing like that in July. It's fucking hot. I'm walking around the unit in underpants and nothing else!
