I am 35 and retired. I feel that it is a choice to be retired. I feel like other people love that drama of not being retired so that they can complain about it and have excuses

"I have to work" = I feel like distancing myself from my family.

It is a perfect go to. Like when a person is in court. They tell the judge but "I have to work." And the judge says "Ok. It is fine. He has to work."

But you can never tell the judge "I am not an idiot. So I am 35 and don't have to work." Working really makes a good excuse for everything.

And being retired is boring as hell. No doubt. It is actually a myth for people who love what they do. There is no retiring if you actually want to do what you are doing.

Hopefully I’ll be able to achieve this, working hard to get there, though at this rate it’ll probably take me till my 40s or fifties,. Still about a decade and a half ahead of my friends and peers.

I'm 44 and about to be semi retired. I have built a camper van and in January I'm taking a lay off and taking a drive around the south east US for 2 months. I'll come back in spring and work for a few months, maybe the summer, and then I'm off again. This is my first trip so I'm staying relatively close. The next trip(s) will be the southwest states, and then I want to go out east in Canada.

I'm a truck driver. Everyone needs truck drivers. With no wife and no kids, I can get by in my kick ass van. I could live in it full time on probably $800-$1000/month. I can work one month and take 2 off. I'll get Employment Insurance when I'm off too. And if somehow EI ran out and I couldn't find work, I could still get by on welfare for a bit.

I started my online home job as a freelancer and within 2 years saved $3000 (key word is SAVED, not MADE, I spend quite a lot of it actually.)

I've also been working my first job for 6 months and also saved %60 of each month's pay which now totals up to $1800.

I'm only 22 and have $4800 saved.

Now.. if I was "smart", I'd throw half of that away to go to a seminar and listen to a dude tell me how I'm supposed to chase excellent and not women because women don't matter to your life. Why do that? So women start chasing me so I can get women so that I'm not a loser anymore.

I’m in the Canadian army and will be retired at 42 with a 65k year pension, enough to live like a king in Eastern Europe. My other friends just talk about how fat their wife has gotten and how they wish they could travel like me.
