Why does it have to have a point?

Hobbies aren't supposed to have a point, if they did they'd be a career or a competition or have a goal.

Let's say you do archery. You can practice all day long to compete in the Olympics, or you can just do it because you like shooting targets.

It doesn't have to have a goal, it can just be fun and enjoyable.

So you go see movies for a "goal"? They're pointless. Just entertainment and flashing colors at this point.

If you were married right now, everything would be just as pointless.

There is no point to life. So I just try to have occasional pointless adventures (when there aren't pandemics going on) and do things that make me happy/satisfied.

It isn't easy, but it's absolutely essential. It's the final, critical self in your self-actualization as a man. You have to live with the question, write about it, think about it, and give it time and effort. You have to really, deeply examine what you want, what matters to you, what you like, and if the answer to those questions is "nothing" you have to start working to come up with real answers. This is a major exercise in personal growth. If you think you need to, enlist the help of a therapist or someone else you think can help. You create your own meaning, in other words. You have to build it.

It's important for two reasons. First, it's what gives your life meaning, which isn't unimportant. Second, if you ever get into another relationship, the single best thing you can bring to it is the knowledge that it's optional, and you can leave and be just fine. The road to hell is paved, believe me, with the idea that your self-definition is based on your relationship. You're an independent, fully actualized person who may just like having a woman around, but the second you start basing it all on what she thinks, or how you're doing together, you're heading towards a kind of death.

Other answers are correct, but maybe you need to reconsider your hobbies. Now that you're free, you're becoming a different person with different interests. Why don't you just try new things for a while, without any pressure? Maybe something clicks with you.

A couple of the comments here are true and helpful; things don't need to have a point, the point is enjoyment, and you shouldn't do things for the approval of others. It can be less helpful to carry that idea too far --to say that everything in life is pointless. This may be true from a cosmic perspective but we don't live our lives from a cosmic perspective.

I would suggest carrying on your hobbies despite this feeling. With time the depression from the break-up will lift, which is part of the feeling of pointlessness, and the other part of it can be alleviated by meeting people with similar hobbies, or sharing your hobbies with friends who are new to them. This will providing a sense of shared growth that you are now missing.

In time you might end up happily doing things alone, but this isn't a state of mind you can just snap yourself into.

Quarantine for me has made me do alot of self reflection in this regard. Im a social butterfly and also have adhd like a motherfucker so I constantly need to be stimulated mentally. Going to sign up for MMA or BJJ once this quarantine lifts

Life doesn't have to have a point. This is the greatest triumph of Masculinity, we build our own purpose we choose what the meaning of life is. This is what the feminists in their various philosophies cannot fathom about Man. They don't comprehend our drive to become someone and to be something in life, they are complacent in simply existing because they purpose of their existence - the meaning of their life - is just to be a woman. They are valued and loved for simply existing. In our case it is NOT enough to just be a Man. We don't just have to prove our worth, we have this inherent instinct to assert it! Even when we are told we are these "special little snowflakes" our reaction is "fuck that!" We have the instinct to grow beyond our mold. To be more than just special, we crave and we desire to be exceptional!

Also, we desire peace and order in our lives which is why we take to retreating from the world through our hobbies, whether they are video games or rebuilding cars. The key to a healthy mind and a happy life is balance and temperance. You have to learn to balance your drives and ambitions with your passions and your desire for tranquility. Be bold, passionate and driven in your day to day life, such as your job or at school and then once that burns off retreat to the tranquility of your hobby. The key is balance. Be driven when you have to be driven and be calm when you have to be calm. Learn how to recognize when you have to play each role and take the initiative in your life and choose when and where you do you want to place each part to balance yourself out. Be assertive, if your job or school is suffocating you take control and have them fuck off for a while so you can breathe. Your life is your rules.

You make the meaning of your own life. The reason it all seems pointless now is because you placed too much stock in your gf. Now you know to never make that mistake again. Do not invest your emotional fuel on women. Never place your hopes and dreams on a female. Place your value only on those things which are within your control. I get the sense that people search for meaning too much in all sorts of things. Sometimes you just gotta sit back and enjoy the ride, take it for what it is. Everyone thinks about meaning from time to time and I've struggled with it as well, but the further you go the more you realize you just need to relax and live in the moment more, enjoy the small things in life.
