I like spending a lot of time to myself. I was excited to take a voluntary lay off this fall and winter and so have been at home goofing off for a month with four months to go before I start welding at the shop again. I have seen a friend or relative once or twice a week, then it's just me at the house.

It's worn a bit thin and with these lingering covid restrictions I have recently felt loneliness where I didn't much in years past. I've been single for ten years, haven't had a roommate for a few years now. 32, no kids. When I work full time my co-workers fill most of my social need. I also had church. I'm leaving the church I went to as I no longer am a Christian, and that also has made me a bit scared, like my world is going to get stronger.

What is funny to me is that I usually don't enjoy talking to people anyway. Lots of times I've been out with people and find it kind of boring and hard to engage. Then later I feel energized. It reminds me of family dynamics. Moms dads and children usually bicker a lot and speak rudely to each other, yet they love each other and are the most important people in each other's lives while to an outside observer they appear to be at war.

How often and how long do you guys wish you had people to be around?
