Thomas Frank is on point. We're spending too much time arguing about gay rights, abortion, #MeToo, trans restrooms, etc. and not enough about inequality. It's hollowing out our middle class and compounding addiction and suicide in the Heartland.

Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Robert Reich, and even Thomas Frank himself (as he admits) all have something in common. They are the top of the top when it comes to academic success. They may just have a few million in the bank, not a few billion like the Wall Street bankers and Koch brothers etc., but they're doing OK. That's why their solution to all your economic problems is always "Get into a good Uni and get all A's! Worked for me!!"

Unfortunately most people are not in either the top 1% in academic success or personal (inherited?) wealth. What about everybody else? Both parties are now chasing after the winners in society, either vast wealth or a PhD from MIT. For rest they throw us a bone by telling us some other group is bad, PoCs, gays, gun lovers, "rapists" (i.e. straight males), etc. They give us something to hate so we fight instead of unite.

Democrats and Republicans have agreed on a game plan:

divide and conquer the people who aren't doing well economically
laugh all the way to the bank
