Mars is a tough sell right now. But we are absolutely capable of building space "way stations" to be able to do this. We would build space platforms for refueling and build rockets and further transport vehicles for colonization and creating mining facilities that would be brought to the nearest planet's and moons to help gather resources.

My bet would be, mostly males would sign up for this and it's a win-win for our species and our gender as we pave the way to finally realizing our next phase of evolution into a fully recognized Type 1 Civilization

Never going to happen. Look at the last two astronaut classes (20 and 21)-almost equal numbers of men and women. Someone at NASA wants to show "Wymmynz and Men can do everything the same", forgetting how physically challenging things like EVA's are. The overwhelming majority of those in the space program are military test pilots, and the overwhelming majority of military test pilots are white guys. You would almost have to go out of your way to pass over enough qualified men to get to a remotely qualified woman. Google "Lisa Nowak"-she cracked under the pressure and wanted to get BB from another astronaut. In the meantime, politicians (especially in Europe and the American Left) are going to be pushing HARD for a vagina to leave the first footprints on Mars. Which would mean that a solipist subject to regular violent mood swings and bleeding from an orifice would be the commander of a long-duration spaceflight. Count me the fuck out.
