The reason why your parents' lasted 40 years is because they came from a different time.

Back then, they had limited access to knowledge and they didn't have many things as we do now like technology.

They literally had to go out and meet people and go to different places for social groups and activities.

And most people were raised in conservative families where the fathers raised their boys and girls to be man and woman while their wives made food and kept their mouths shut until feminism appeared.

Edit: love is not a thing. It's a chemical reaction that release dopamine in your system. Hence, that's why men craves sex and women craves attention. It's a helluva drug.

My parents have been married for nearly 40 years, my dad works his ass off to currently pay mortgages on 2 "Dream Homes", the one in California that they built and the one in South Carolina because my sister moved there and my mom didn't want to be more than 3 miles away from her... They have 10 dogs because my mom "loves animals" and every time I visit they are both pissed off because of their shitty dogs yapping and barking, he has NO time for himself, she works a minuscule job at an animal hospital, and my pops hates heat and humidity but they're moving to South Carolina where it's 90 degrees+ with 80% humidity 5-6 months of the year. My dad has mysteriously become allergic to pork in his 60s and says it happens to people all the time, but it isn't the 10 dogs and 3 cats they have..... He said they needed to buy a $450,000 2nd "dream" home in their mid 60s, right near my sister, because they would "get a divorce" if they had to live together in less square footage...

That is how marriage works.

In their era marriage worked well for a far higher percentage than today. That doesn't mean things were perfect, that they knew love and we don't, or that grandma didn't bone the milk man whilst grandpa rogered the young desk clerk at the factory.

People have always been people. I do think they had a far more healthy morality and social dynamic generally. They also expected less, faced death and illness more, were far more resilient than we are.

Depends on your definition of love.

There is love for God and from God is that real? if you have faith there is, if you don't there is not

There is love for your parents and family and they're love for you.

There is love for your pet and they're love for you.

there is love you have for your car, boat, bike (shoes if you are a woman)

there is love you have for your children and they're love for you

and there is romantic love a man and a woman share (honeymoon phase). it that real?

biologically love is just chemicals you brain produce and release in determinate occasions. when a man protect a woman his stupid brain release chemicals that makes him feels good. And when a woman is taken care of her brain produces chemicals that makes her feel good.

Your observation is correct that it is a rare thing.

A lot of us that have enough experience under our belts will tell you that what drives us in to these relationships is to procreate. We want to project and attach other ideals to it, but at the end of the day, its the natural drive to bring babies in to this world, stay in it long enough to provide and protect, and then move on.

Women, by nature's design, see men as a commodity, and will measure them based on usefulness through her lens.

....and you haven't established any criteria for determining whether anything is "real".

Love is a delusion. Mutual love is a mutual delusion. The only way a relationship lasts like that where the mutual delusion is maintained is if there is less outside influences to distract people from their shared delusion.

Marriages work sometimes because men are willing to be submissive betas. Look at all those so called successful marriages, do you see those men being free to make their own decisions? Leading their family and being happy? No you dont. Even in the case of my parents which have been married for 14 years and together for 30 years, they are only together because my father learned his place as the submissive bitch that he is, he has no goals or aspirations, he makes a lot of money at his job, money that is spent on useless shit that we dont even need and then he comes home and sits in front of the tv eating lots of chips and junk food. He watches a lot of sports and tv shows but you would never see him actually doing those sports, if you asked him, you would hear constant excuses that he doesnt have time, he is just coping at this point and he doesnt even realizes it, he thinks that I am willing to do the same, but I am much wiser than he could ever be. There is no such thing as a happy marriage, only misery, some are worst than others but ultimately they all suck. True love doesnt exist, its a lie spread by society to turn us into simps at a very young age so that we will be compliant wage slaves that allow society to function the way it is now.
