I'm assuming your friend is a born-again Christian as well, right? If not, forget it. If you really want to get down to the nitty-gritty have your friend put a PI on her tail for a few days and research the background available that he can find out. It will cost some money in the short-term but in the long-term will pay off so he can avoid divorce and alimony and CS.
