Everything here was supposed to disappear. Banned subreddits, deleted communities, cancelled blogs — much of what is archived here survives nowhere else.
It stays free — no paywall, no account — for the next man who comes looking, the way it was free for you.

GREAT IDEA! Warning tales and harsh doses of reality have their place, but we are going our own way; let's talk about THAT sometimes.
I just got back home from a two week vacation. I spent some time in Arizona, where I went to museums, hiked in the desert, and went to some pretty great restaurants. It was also cool to play around with my first smart phone, using Uber and Air BnB, which I found to be easy and innovative ways to interact with a new place.
I also camped out in Pinnacles National Park, which is the smallest and newest National Park, unless they've opened a new one I don't know of. It only has about 30 miles of trails, and I did about half of that over two full days. It was easier hiking than I expected, as some of them have no significant elevation gain, but rather follow creek beds. There were also a few caves to walk through, though nothing extreme.
So now I'm rethinking my packing strategy for future adventures, while I feel my car camping strategy is pretty tuned in at this time.
I've got several months off of work now, so the challenge now is to avoid boredom/depression or wasting too many days. I'm thinking of joining a gym for the winter, even though it is too far to drive there more than twice a week. Therefore I am also getting back into free weights and yoga.
What would you guys do if you had three months off work? I'm not really into video games, although I spent a fair amount of time online. Currently I read books, lift weights/do yoga, go for hikes, and think about life and the world. I'm considering some sort of trip, even to a foreign country, but I would like to keep it below $2,000 total cost.

Thank you, I've heard mention of "Richest man in Babylon" here and elsewhere on reddit, so I will look for that. I've read Brave New World, but years ago. Atlas Shrugged has been on my list for a long time, and I've read another book by the author.
I forgot to mention that as far as skilled hobbies go, I've got a old 15' sailboat that needs some work, so I've ordered some fiberglass materials and will mess around with that; I've heard that fiberglass is messy work but not all that difficult.
