The saddest thing is a lot of those lifeboats left half empty. They kept back the 3rd class passengers and interpreted the rules as only women and children. They did not let the men on so the initial lifeboats left with spaces so that the upperclass women were comfortable.

There was an actually an article about this, sometime around 2012 I think, in which it described a boat somewhere near Australia that capsized. The men were pushing and shoving. The adage of "women and children first" was completely disregarded. The writer of the article, a feminist, was overly emotional and described how the event gave her trauma and how men need to be chivalrous again. Feminists for you.
