Well first of all I don't even pay attention to the media. Also if a man needs to buy a woman a bunch of stuff to get sex he's basically dating a whore. When I had a gf I'd just do stuff like make a handmade card and it was good enough.

My two cents:

I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark about you, OP. I'm going to guess you're under the age of 30. There is a reason why I believe Congress should pass a law forbidding men from marrying before 30, men before that age are horny all the time. It takes age before (or at least, I) woke up one day and figured out that women are not the be all and end all. You live your life for yourself, and nobody else. If you find a woman to share it with, and it works out, congratulations, you beat the odds.

However, it isn't until you get older that experience teaches you how to avoid the folly of youth. There were tons of things I did to impress girls when I was younger that I look back on now with embarrassment. If you take care of yourself, make yourself interesting, and increase your value, they will come to you. That is the great lesson that age and experience have taught me. That is why I never worry about girls anymore, I only worry about myself, and increasing my value.

I'll be chilling at home alone while my roommates are out at work. I also get Sunday by myself while they're doing their V-day stuff late. I get two whole days to do whatever I want by myself. I don't see how that's depressing.

The reason the western world has been stagnating for decades is because everyone in the last century has been getting married. Women are a pacifying force. They neuter the drive and restless energy of men that would otherwise be more proactively antagonistic to the Marxist feminism that plagues us today.

You feel uncomfortable being single because society hates a young, productive, single man. He's the most likely to become (rightfully) pissed off that he's expected to bear a disproportionate tax burden. He's more likely to take issue with being treated as an expendable pawn by women and the government, despite producing far more than he consumes.

You're being manipulated into feeling bad because you are a threat to the Marxist political machine. Embrace being alone. You are the solution to every social problem that exists today.

Maybe i'm going to play devils advocate, but you are completely right - there is no other reason to work. If you do MGTOW routine (that involves staying away from women), unless you have some expensive hobby, all you need is some savings to be financially secure and that's it. No future house mortgage, no kids, no wedding, no 2 cars, college funds etc. That's why socialism would be a great IMO choice for MGTOW, things like basic income or good unemployment benefit would make men completely free to do whatever they want. Capitalism makes few alpha even more alpha when they collect their "market winnings", at expense of most of men (that have to fight hard for it). Socialism with "everyone is equal" actually lowers alpha value by removing monetary advantage of being an alpha, and shortens the distance between men. And women have to work equally too.

My advice: You have job, so work and save as much as you can. But don't elevate your living standard. When in few years you will lose your job, get bored of it and want to quit etc,. you will have a great cusion to fell on maybe even for tens of years. That's a nice feeling to have that cusion, work for it.

And yes the media (entirely funded by advertising -- advertising the sale of all kinds of crap) has made it into a massive "spend-money/buy stuff" occasion (gives them a reason to charge higher rates for ads, push certain segments of businesses {including some that normally don't advertise much on holidays} into spend money on even more advertising, etc.)

But for women AND for men -- it's basically just a massive "shit test" day

Seriously. It's a "perform" (mostly for the men) OR ELSE.

The rate of couple "breakups" (including "Divorces" -- attorneys refer to it as "D-Day", i.e. "divorce-day") on and after Valentine's day actually SPIKES like crazy.

And there are probably a HOST of reasons for that -- there are doubtless a rather large number of chicks and guys who otherwise probably would have broken up (or even filed for divorce) consciously and intentionally delay/defer it until AFTER Valentine's... (so basically for the women, it's a chance to extract some last goodies and/or obeisance from their male slave before kicking him to the curb).

There's probably another segment who are waiting to see (i.e. the shit test) just ~~how successfully they have manipulated/controlled/sunk their claws into their male-slave~~ oops, I mean determined just how much 'IN LOVE' they are (i.e. how much of his wallet/paycheck WILL he splurge on stupid/vapid bullshit?)

And then of course there are those who desperately try to "find someone" prior to the day (mostly as a "show" thing -- status & peer pressure bullshit -- but internal validation as well) -- in which case the whole thing was about NOT being "alone" for the day (and thus the person is just a temporary "fill in" -- some idiot stranger they shit-test to see what kind of potential access they will have to his wallet, and how "blue-pill" he can be).

And then there's people like US... who rather than think of ourselves as being objects of "pity" -- look on all of the above with EYES OPEN... and we pity all of them.

Because they are all SERIOUSLY DELUDING themselves and each other. And by the end of the coming week (indeed if not by the end of today) many of them will be feeling "betrayed" (from one side or the other), not to mention feeling USED, ABUSED, DISCARDED... and a host of other vastly more intense (and longer lasting) negative emotions; not to mention all kinds of drama & trauma episodes, and so on.

Meanwhile... we can (or certainly should) be soaring ABOVE all of that -- calmly and serenely... with an occasional downward glance of "pity" for the fools below.

Now seriously... is the (slight) possibility of having a (probably not all that satisfying) orgasm within what is (probably a rather dry) vajayjay, or some half-hearted blow job (if that) ... is it REALLY worth all of the bother?

Never have I been through the end of a relationship saying it was worth it. Every single time I wish I was smart enough never to start another one. This time I am. Last LTR was ended in 2002. Last "girlfriend" (just barely) was a girl who asked me out in 2009 and honestly I never would have asked her out. She was OK personality-wise but not slim & not even a 6 really.

I think she's nice but I feel very much I would have been an asshole to turn her down asking me out so I just went with it. It went nowhere. You can't fake attraction.

sounds like you need to cut off whatever source of media you are watching first and foremost, it is obviously projecting a bad image to you (and might I add a false one)...that is step 1.
