First, Get yourself in a job, any job, doesn't matter for now, just get yourself working, get yourself out there, making money, and at worst, keeping yourself afloat... for now.

Start looking for better jobs, better areas of work, ask yourself, what does the world need? What can I contribute to the world, to my employer? What do I need in order to be better serve this goal? Then go out there and do that!

It might be that engineering is exactly what you need. It might not. You might not know what that is, and that's fine, just keep working and doing your best at your shitty job, every day, becoming a better person than the day before, until you figure it out.

Don't be afraid to try new things. Don't be afraid of failure, embrace it. Everyone fails in the beginning, many times over.. In martial arts, we say that there is only winning and learning. The only loss is when you choose not to gain anything from your experience.

And don't forget that there are many many people in way worse positions than you who are doing just fine, you're not half the loser we like to tell ourselves we are. And partly because of that, Partly because you have this self critical 'demon' inside you, that's what makes you wise. The people who squander shit, are the ones who thought they were bad-asses, thought that no harm could come to them, that thought that all women are unicorns. e.t.c. You're already doing better than half of the men around you (with our without higher education)

I got my degree in my 30s. It won't matter in the long run.

I have masters degree in engineering. It takes a while to get such a degree. I only started working when I was 24.

28 is not that old. You do not have to worry about younger guys. You will not have lost much time. If your job or dream job involves engineering: Go for the degree.

Don't worry about age. Just focus on getting your education and getting started on your career.
