Always I've been the "nice guy" who'd do anything for my significant other.

My first girlfriend I dated for over two years. She cheated on me with my best friend at the time.

I then started dating someone else for six years. She cheated on me with my roommate and best friend at the time (different guy).

Five days into a new relationship my next girlfriend went on a road trip with a guy, just the two of them. It was over.

My fourth girlfriend seemed different. Dating and engagement was wonderful. We never even had a fight before marriage. The first year of marriage was wonderful.

Then she began to change. Her respect for me left. She became antagonistic, critical, and abusive. She began breaking my stuff, throwing stuff at me, and insulting me.

After she broke my computer screen I got rid of the rest if my computer to "prove" to her that I loved her more than video games. Yeah, I regret that one and can't afford another right now.

I did everything I could think of to love her well. We travelled to El Salvador twice where she was from, to Cuba, New York City, Washington DC, etc.

I worked to make her dreams reality but she continued to become more and more abusive and hateful.

In January on a day off from work I worked in the yard. She came home from work pissed. I didn't clean the house too.

She threw my stuff out of the house. Literally. Right into the driveway.

I packed it up and left.

She now had a boyfriend, a former coworker. She's referred to him as her "best friend" in the past. I say he is a former coworker as he was fired after it was discovered that he was an illegal immigrate.

They've gone on road trips together, trips we talked about taking.

But I guess they are not leaving the country anymore if they plan to come back. We used to talk about traveling outside of the country once every year. I guess she's not doing that anymore. I giggle about that sometimes.

But yesterday was our fourth anniversary. I really dislike that I'm in the middle of a divorce but I get a restart. We have no kids. I don't owe her anything. It's over.

It sucks. But no one is hitting me anymore. I don't have to fear coming home. I'm okay and I will continue to be okay. I'm 31 and I have some good days ahead.

Tldr: Tried to be a good husband but my wife responded with abuse. But I'm now free.
