If a married person commits adultery in Saudi Arabia, the penalty is death by stoning. If an unmarried person commits adultery, the penalty is 100 lashes. That one made me go WTF? I didn't think it was possible for an unmarried person to commit adultery. I thought if a single person had sex with a married person, the married person was committing adultery, but the single person wasn't. I guess they see it differently in Saudi Arabia.

I looked up this info because I've wondered if the United States should have tougher penalties for adultery. If you have a wife, she can cheat on you and not only not get punished, but she's rewarded for it via the divorce. It's insane. However, the way they do it in Saudi Arabia also seems insane. Either stoned to death (if married) or lashed 100 times (if not married). Shit, that's rough.

Maybe someone who commits that crime could just have to walk around in public wearing a sign that says, "I'm an adultress/adulterer." Then they spend two weeks in jail. Then they have to do a month of community service, picking up trash on the highway. Also, they would forfeit any right to property via the divorce. Wouldn't that be sufficient? Or do you think Saudi Arabia has it right?
