Well I wouldn't call it bad rep. People fear what they can't control. So it really is fear being showcased as hate.
As the old adage goes, a man who has nothing to lose is dangerous.
It's just like how in most childhood stories, the wolf was portrayed as the bad guy. But he isn't really bad, he just can't be controlled and tamed. Ever wondered why circus do have tigers and lions but never a wolf? This is where the term lone wold originates from.

Imagine every woman worshipping you all your life, they just cannot do enough for you. Even TV and films pander to you.
Then theres a club, its called "Fuck NeutralXO" and it's made up of women who will never do you favours or worship you. They think you've had it so easy and so good that they refuse to help you if they see you. They just ignore you like you don't exist.
You wouldn't really like this group or want them to exist, let alone talk about you and how people shouldn't care about you.
That's MGTOW backlash basically.

Two main reasons
Number one is "the plantation". Men who are in relationships, are engaged, or are married want to know that they've made the right choice. In the back of their minds they know that if they get divorced the deck is stacked against them, even if they won't admit it, so they hope that they picked the "right" woman, and that it will all work out in the end. When unmarried men are coming out in droves openly saying they reject marriage they start to get nervous about their own decisions.
Number two is the gender ratios between men and women. Women already outnumber men, meaning that even in the best case scenario in which every man gets married, there will still be some unmarried women. When men start coming out in droves, again, saying they reject marriage, this means that their dating pool gradually gets smaller, and that their chances of hitching a man themselves shrinks as well.

Good point on that. Also, considering the fact that women always needs to be in a relationship of some sort because they are evolved to be dependent, the idea of men not accepting them drives them crazy and suicidal. Which is why you see women being the craziest when rejected, dumped and tossed but quickly bounce back after she latches on to someone else to provide for her

I learned from the red pill sub that this is contributed to by the feminine imperative. Long theory short, the feminine imperative is a societal code of conduct reinforced by females and it's what dictates what kind of behavior is allowed etc. The men who obey such behavioral Norma would tend to be favored and would set an example for the rest of the male population, which is why you would often see other men and women telling others to "man up and pay for her while she fucks behind your back". Women created the idea of what men need to do and what they need to be and how to act accordingly. This also explains why they are group-thinking creatures who need to confide with the rest of their female friends to make sure they approve of their male friends/boyfriend's etc. This also explains why men who do no exhibit the traits that females want are shunned upon. However, same cannot be said for men because we are not evolved to manipulate the society, rather we have evolved to build it. Such is the fate of our design, we can still hold the power because at any moment we can refuse to build the society for the females. Females would then have no society to manipulate. It will either lead to total destruction of this miserable world we live in, or a compromise of both sides.
