I get the joke but it doesn't change the fact that it doesn't make sense that she could remember him doing something he never did even if she was an elephant...

A lot of memories are false.

A lot of witnesses will recollect things differently from eachother, because memories are recreated every time you remember them.
You also have things that people collectively misremember, like the Mendela Effect.

That’s not always true.

I’m just saying not every memory is false, that’s ridiculous.

This guy got falsely convicted of rape because of some false recollections. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PB2OegI6wvI

So you just gonna ignore me?
[–]nonamesavailable_0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I was gonna say that we’re on the same page. I know that some memories can be false. But the way you we’re saying it made it seem like our entire life’s recollection was a lie lol. Sorry if I misinterpreted what you said.
[–]MGTOWorSLAVE 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah. :/ I should have worded that differently.
[–]killallh8ters0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
because memories are recreated every time you remember them.
That’s not true. There are memories that are remembered the same way you always remembered them.

Great talk, thank you for sharing

It was probably more than that.

The husband lied to the therapist, he probably calls her fat all the time because she is.
[–]TheWretchedMass0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
You don't get the joke. You think you do but you don't. In his point of view she's wrong, there's two possible explanations: 1. She's lying 2. She forgot, so he decided she's lying since she's an elephant.
[–]roadkill_er0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
You’re correct. The punchline you explained is the intended punchline. She’s an elephant (so isn’t mistaking her memories,) ergo she’s lying.
However, the joke would make more sense had the therapist said “She remembers this tho. How can you say she’s lying?” Or something along those lines... Then the guy responds with the punchline.
I think the clumsy phrasing —in this particular telling of it— is why some in this thread aren’t getting the joke.

"She’s an elephant (so isn’t mistaking her memories,) ergo she’s lying."
That makes no sense. If she isn't mistaking her memories, them she is telling the truth. The only way it makes a tiny bit sense is if you claim the husband wasn't joking, but was being serious. In other words, they weren't jokes because she really is fat. However, that still isn't sensible because even if she really is fat, he could still be making jokes.

Hi, I think you misunderstood what I’m saying.
If someone says something factually inaccurate, they’re either mistaken (their memory has failed them,) or their memory has not failed them and so they must be consciously lying. Since the man’s wife is an elephant and elephants’ memories don’t fail them... then the only conclusion is she must be lying.
EDIT: also see my other comment about how the interaction between the therapist and husband is awkwardly conveyed. This particular iteration of this joke is a poor telling of it. I think that’s causing the confusion in this thread.
[–]LJHova0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
What? Your reasoning makes absolutely no sense.
[–]ididntsaythatspez -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think the joke is it doesn’t make any sense, it’s purely just savage.

The state of this fucking sub. It wasn't this cringe worthy before incels was banned

This is a particularly cringeworthy shitpost

I agree it's not the best content I've ever seen here; to me the main redeeming quality is that he is demonstrating an IDGAF attitude. Ever since he was dumb enough to commit to marriage, he may have been on the road to divorce rape (which maybe he's starting to realize now), but at least his IDGAF attitude demonstrates he's not stressed out about it. An IDGAF attitude can help in so many situations. Peace, tranquility, calm . . . IDGAF.

You got an audible laugh from me.
On that note, I do find it interesting that "lol" has become so common for signaling amusement that it doesn't tend to mean "laugh out loud " anymore
