Nope school does not value your efforts only what grade you get, and what grade you get will also depend big time on what teacher do you have and you have no choosing in that. I have an example from my life in the school.

So the teacher is questioning us with 5 random questions during class it is so that we get a grade.

I go and and answer 3 out of 5 questions, but the thing is those 3 that i did know i knew them very very well, those three answers were comparable to maybe like 8 simple answers.

Then my classmate goes and answers 4 out 5 random questions but the answers were just comically short and undetailed, they did not require much at all to learn.

Guess who gets the higher grade? Of course my classmate which put in much less effort into studying, just because she answered 1 more the teacher gave her the higher grade DESPITE the fact that the quality of those answers were a lot worse than mine, in fact i asked her and heard it myself that she studied less than i did.

This is a huge problem with school, it makes you study things only and only for the grade as that is the only thing they see. The grading system is so oversimplified that it cannot properly and fairly judge which grade someone is getting. But learning so that you only reach that threshold is forgettable and boring, in the end you learn nothing because of that and school fails at it's apparent primary objective which is apparently to "educate".

Neil deGrasse Tyson i believe gave an example where he said imagine two people spelling "cat", and they both fail at it but one spells "kat" and the other one spells "yat", now they would both get the same grade but it excludes the fact that one person was very close to the answer while the other one completely missed it, meaning the grade was unfairly given. So in that simple example you can see for yourself that the grading system is very bad as it only takes in a small set of variables which in turn makes an unjust system.

There are of course many other problems with school this is just one of them, in general i found from my experience that it is not a fair place.
