Should I read penguin classics?

I started "A Tale of Two Cities" last week. I'm trying to get through it. I really am. Gonna say that Dickens and that era of story are not for me, but I will be sticking with my new hobby of reading.

Sure, many are worth reading although which ones would depend on your individual taste. I'd recommend Schopenhauer's Essays and Aphorisms. I don't know all the novels they publish, but I'd start with Confessions of a Justified Sinner by James Hogg, Tom Jones by Henry Fielding, House of the Dead by Dostoyevski, and Gogol's shorter works.

Edit, Just took a quick look and just based on that I'd also suggest Discourses by Epictetus, Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, Life on the Mississippi by Twain, Confessions of an English Opium Eater-DeQuincey, Fable of the Bees-Mandeville. I didn't notice what there was by PG Wodehouse, but if there is something, I'd look at that too.

I don't know if it's a penguin classic, but 1984 is a must-read.

If you're looking to read books, check around for a used book shop or buy older prints online. Usually way better quality, they look cooler, and it adds a bit to the enjoyment knowing you aren't lining the pockets of someone who has little do do with the work itself.

People really love seeing old stuff, I used to have GF's constantly steal out of my library and never return them.

Burmese Days by George Orwell is a great, although tragic, read that resonates with the tenets of this subreddit; also Rosshalde by Hermann Hesse.

i don't mess with fiction. there are too many real-world subjects that are fascinating enough to keep me engaged.

when i want to read a "story" i usually read a memoir / autobiography or account of some person / place / thing that exists or existed in the real world.

just my $.02
