My friend was outraged. He had all female staff and management at his store. He paid everyone very well and as soon as there was a confirmed case in the town. They all quit (even the manager who was getting paid above the national income for what she is doing). Now, he is trying to juggle his new endeavor and his shop. He always spoke highly of his staff and is now distraught.

honor and loyalty allow men to preserve the lives of women and close relatives thereby increasing genetic success rates. a dead father with living kids or nephews or grandkids is evolutionarily a success.

I only hired men when I was a G.M. less stress, no drama, no toxic behavior, they would show up on time, and no call offs. When I did interview women I would always ask if they had children and how many. More kids? More reasons to call off. What's really funny? They were ALWAYS "single mothers" like that was some sort of hero status.

Same story here, my friend runs a small-medium sized business and used to get a lot of flack from women about equal pay and the like/why aren't there more female managers etc. He promoted a few of these women just to try and get them off his back and also because he felt guilty like maybe they were right.
Enter coronavirus. His female managers who pride themselves on being 'just as tough if not tougher than the men' have all bolted...they want paid leave to 'contribute to not spreading the virus' by staying home. All the female workers have deserted too. It's only some of the men left now (some of the men also abandoned ship too but considering this business was like 75% female, 25% male, the only people left in store are like 100% male. He's losing a lot of revenue he'd usually be making in these months (months leading up to Spring/Summer are usually pretty good for him) but he's just thankful a few of these guys are holding down the fort and keeping some cash coming in.
As always, when there's danger or some risk associated with the job, gender equality suddenly doesn't play a part anymore.
