I suggest guys who are new to this way of life start studying social behaviors. It will equip you with the tools necessary to spot toxic people, and avoid them, before they can do any real damage.
It is essentially the act of mitigating risk by understanding what is really going on. Most people lie directly to your face. You will never know their true intentions by taking them at face value. By learning to understand the nuances of what people do, and why they do it, you can spot the red flags a mile away.
Psychopathic narcissism is becoming rampant. I believe it's due to environmental stresses, developmental issues, mental illnesses, and the cocktail of pharmaceuticals that so many people are stuffing themselves with.
These people are incredibly dangerous and absolutely toxic, and should be avoided at all costs. The scary part is how common they are now. I guarantee you know at least one of them personally. Chances are, you know several people who are afflicted. The fact that you say you're young, leads me to believe you have circles of people who are also young, therefor likely have encountered several of them.
We're exponentially fucking ourselves up with each passing generation now. More than what we used to. Most generations blame things on the younger people, but I believe the ones that came of age in the early 2000's truly were a turning point. Technology, had by that point, enabled us to fuck ourselves even harder, coupled with the abandoning of many mechanisms and institutions we had that kept us polite.
So again, I suggest you start studying social behavior. It will help you continue down your own path without being destroyed by some whackjob along the way.

Agreed, and if you're going to risk LTRs for any reason, study and know attachment styles. Avoid all but secure no matter what.
