So true. My dad wanted a son so badly, but it took him over 3 years to talk my mom into it. He got 2! If not for us being twins, I definitely wouldn't have a brother.

I might not be giving my dad enough credit, but I don't think he wanted to have children. I have 2 sisters and with all their needs over the years probably bled him dry(years of school, weddings, help with their children). When I think of my own failures I can see why he is disappointed with me, I didn't become a doctor or a lawyer, so in effect didn't listen to him. On almost any family event I think he'd rather be fishing or smoking pot while watching the horse races, and this includes activities involving me in the past like father/son soccer games etc. I don't really want to thank him, but instead ask him "Why?"

For once there's a meme here that I do not agree with, and that is ok. I am glad to know my father and growing up we have had many differences (as sons and fathers generally do), but I couldn't be happier to have him as my father. He is the guy that showed me what it means to be a man.
