I always thought the saying "Her body, her choice. His money, her choice." was while mostly true, slightly exaggerated. But apparently not, it seems to be the absolute truth. Also kinda proud of the dude. She most likely intended to move in his place rent-free or by token reciprocity, with some excuse.

Never, ever let a girlfriend move in with you especially in Texas. Within a few days or weeks she will be considered a “resident” (even if she has never paid one bill or rent) and it will be impossible to get her out with anything but a formal eviction (which is a few hundred dollars and takes about a month or so).

Short of simply not expecting personal loans to ever be repaid, only agree to the loan when it is secured by taking possession of something with value at least four time greater than the amount of the loan. If the loan is not paid back as agreed, the collateral is forfeit and can then be sold for half its actual value to quickly recoup the original loan funds plus compensation for the bother of having to sell the forfeit item.
