"mentor"...what is this shit? Is this how they think business works? You guilt some higher up into showing you favoritism and taking time to teach you how to steal his desk?

Maybe I'm anomalous but in my career (fairly high tech R&D) I've never had a job with any "mentoring". (One company had a mandatory "mentoring" program that just amounted to an extra review each year). Every job I've had has involved being dropped head first in the deep end of a project that is barely in the same ballpark as what you were told to expect, and you either sink or swim.
