Yep, just a lying, self centered cheating mama, who doesn't take care of her kid. Ultimately just another spoiled, basic bitch. He saw the person he wanted to see, and lost his life over trying to give her the chance to have a real, meaningful relationship. Pretty much sums it up.

All of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novels are centered around an enigmatic woman and the pitfalls that surround attaching yourself to a woman like that. People write about what they know. Fitzgerald spent most of his life chasing and trying to appease the southern beauty Zelda Sayre.

That's why I love that movie. He's ant-rolemodel of what not to do.

there's a part of the movie where he talks about him not loving and how limitless it makes him, but if he kisses her, it all goes to shit (paraphrasing).

The author left the anti message there as a warning. If that was the goal of the movie, the feminine hoards wouldn't have left it grow into such a popular story.
