Lots of this goes back to just looks obviously. Hard to roast someone for their profession, hobbies etc over just one photo. Looks however are the prime topic. Most men would just brush all those comments away and laugh or agree.
A woman though finds her identity (typically) in their looks. So if one gets trashed on their looks, it's like trashing their identity and what they stand for. That's why post-wall have such a hard time letting go as they've lived a life of someone beauty only to be dragged down by gravity. So their identity is fragile and destructible. Now that realization is pain.
