It’s not cruel. It only SOUNDS cruel. It’s like training a dog. Girls respond well to it. One phrase that I learned very early to describe part of the process was: “give her the gift of missing you”. Meaning, only see her once a week, don’t go see her every time she wants u to come over etc. It’s not exhausting, it’s just a reframing of probably all your social conditioning of what it means to be a boyfriend.
