Mainstream music is seriously disgusting. I personally despise the music itself, but the lyrical content is repugnant. Graduated high school in 2015, and by then my middle school sister was listening to this kind of shit. It's all about sex, drugs, and money. Not to mention the constant n-word spam and all of the other vulgar words they throw in there.

People try to defend this stuff by making the argument "well that's what rock music was about in the 80s". And they're totally right, but the lyrics were tame. You didn't hear any big name bands back then saying

Sometimes I wish I was born a bit sooner so I could've experienced clubs/bars with better music. My dad raised me on rock so maybe I'm just biased, but fuck it'd be nice to not have to hear the current garbage everywhere I go. It's not even just kids, I know 35-40yr olds that unironically and unashamedly eat this shit up and mumble the lyrics while walking around at the gym.

I've always speculated that the kind of music a person likes is directly linked to their intelligence. Smartest people I know listen to prog metal, jazz, electronic, full blown orchestral stuff, etc.
