To those wondering, the guy probably had traffic behind him which left him no choice other than to risk a rush through to prevent the gates from damaging the car. She probably got nervous and bailed as the driver fumbled with the wheel.

And that's why you leave enough space in front of you when crossing railroads. If there's a traffic jam on the other side and not enough room to clear your car from the tracks you simply stop before the crossing, doesn't matter if there's a train coming or not.

Same when crossing an intersection in heavy traffic, if you can't cross because of a traffic jam exiting the intersection, you don't want to be sitting in the middle of the intersection when the lights change. Doesn't matter if the light is green and there's an idiot behind you honking their horn.

I have to do heavy traffic every day to work and I'm amazed at how some people have managed to get their driver's license. And one important lesson they don't teach you in driving school: It's OK to break traffic rules to get out of or prevent getting into a dangerous situation. Other drivers can deal with you not following the rules to the letter. They can't deal with someone who is driving unpredictable.

The gates have sensors right? I think he thought the gates could have damaged the car if it stood where it did thats why he drove forward and got stuck. Cant see behind the car so dont know if he could have reversed it.
