Gender is a social construct but there is still a wage gap? Cant you just identify as a man on your pay check and get increased pay then? Now that's some oppression right there instant free pay increase.

If gender is a social construct women aren't real
[–]renzy123-1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
At some level I agree with that. There are males, females, and deviations from that due to mutation/other factors. The idea of "men" and "women" is completely unnecessary. People are just a collection of thoughts and behaviors. Let's recognize them for that, rather than how they like to identify.

If American women are oppressed then what are women in the middle east lol?
[–]Aura1937 points38 points39 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
You cannot criticize the middle east, it's cultural appropriation and racist, remember?
/s.
[–]justiceavenger28 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
But I am a proud cultural appropriator though lol.

Can you explain why these kind of sarcasm "fits" this forum?
I understand if it would be in female subreddit, that would make sense because its a sarcasm that women would read, but here it just doesnt make any sense..

Chill out mate.
It was just a joke.
Aren't we allowed to joke around at all now?
[–]Dawnguards0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Of course you can! I was actually wanted to know how it fits this. I want to understand.

fyi, men have it really bad in those 3rd world countries. The prison rates, homeless rates, violence/murder rates, suicide rates, war deaths, social funding, false accusations... name the statistic, all the same. And people only talk about how bad the women have it. Sound familiar?

Because women aren't "oppressed" in first world countries, that's why.
Neither men are for that matter.
Sure, sexism and discrimination exists, as with everything in life, but it is not as widespread as it used to be, plus most folks if asked, they admit that they hold egalitarian views.
Discrimination and "oppression" only exist in the third world countries, you're not going to find such distinctions in educated and developed countries in the west.
[+]rochesterjones-6 points-5 points-4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Oppressions has degrees, and is not limited to extreme circumstances. Things are much better in the USA than they are in Saudi Arabia, but that doesn’t mean everything’s all good in the hood here and in other western countries.
[–]Aura196 points7 points8 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Oppression is minimal in first world countries though.
In America racism and sexism might be at higher heights than other first world countries, i am going to give you that one, but it doesn't essentially mean that we're oppressed left and right here in the west.
Most of those studies have been debunked or have revealed flaws in their documentations anyways.
Oppression and discrimination are far lower than you've made to believe, but it doesn't mean that it's insignificant.
They do happen, but only in swarms of isolated incidents.
