Are you any good with electricity? That'd be the least damage to your body (in my opinion) with electrocution being the exception :) Good luck. Just pick the one you have a passion for. that's the most important element.

If you’re going to attempt to join the trades I would suggest contacting the local union halls in your area inquiring about the apprenticeship programs. If you know someone currently in the trades who could help you get your foot in the door. That is a huge help.

I recommend looking into these:

Machine operator ie: cranes, elevators, backhoes Plumber Electrician Carpenter Iron worker Laborer Cement Mason/Plasterer

I put mine last only because it is one of the more physically demanding and does the most harm. Cilicia dust nasty stuff.

Although they pay well, stay away from carpentry, drywall, stonework/masonry, plumbing. HVAC and electrician pay great and are easier on the body. I've done/do it all. Good luck n take care.

Carpentry is pretty good for exercize. youre going up and down ladders, carrying stuff, Stepping over things, and using your head as much as your measuring tape.

And its fun to build things and get nice results...

Carpenters tend to stay thin.

Definitely electrician. I did this going through college.

I never worked in the sun. Building codes requires the roof be on before pulling wire. My boss tried it once and the inspector made him pull it out and discard it. He never tried again.

I never worked in the cold. You can't pull cold wire because it will break. We had to start a winter job by putting up plastic and heating the space with a propane heater.

Electrocution? Not with 120v AC though it stings good. I'm glad swearing was part of the job.

Sensible choice. Those skills will always be in demand. And I don't think automation is something to be feared of in trades. I read an article that made sense: automation in trades will be complimentary instead of replacing. It wrote about exoskeletons which allowed workers to easily lift heavy things.

I second elevator mechanic. They are typically the highest paid on prevailing wage scale on government funded projects. If I had to do it all over again, I'd sure as hell go into this trade.

I'm a carpenter, and I enjoy it. Having said that, I wouldn't recommend it because illegals have driven the wages down. I suggest hvac, plumbing, electrician, welder, because the perceived value will remain high. People seem to think putting wood together is not worth much. Even though they have no clue how to do it well. All four of the things I mentioned will always have a need in our society.

I suggest both a business degree and a trade. That way you can become an entrepreneur and start your own business with a solid understanding of business, finance, accounting, marketing, etc... and the actual skill of the trade. My two cents.

Plumber here. We’re the top dogs of the trades (everyone needs to seperate their shitting water from their drinking water) but it’s bloody hard yakka and expect to crawl around inside roofs, under houses/crawl spaces. Expect to get covered in shit every now and again. Best part is working with other blokes, ZERO women, and your ability to make money and pave your own way directly correlates with your abilities in your trade. And, unlike sparkies, you’ll learn how to use a broom and clean up after yourself.

Caveat: the money doesn’t come until you’re at least 4th year and can do your own cashies without fucking up. Expect to get treated like an absolute piece of shit as an apprentice. Abused apprentices make the best tradesmen, took me 4-5 years to realise that. Be switched on, stay off the bongs/meth and keep your mouth shut unless your input has been asked for (it won’t be).

HVAC or electrician. Power engineer is another option, but that trade only technically exists in canada and a few select states (NY and TX most notably).
