The alpha strategy is to dominate all other males and lead the group such that he has complete access to all of the females. The beta strategy is to be subservient to an alpha and befriend his females.

Both have historically been successful strategies. This is evident simply because both traits still exist. Alphas either become successful or they die. But betas have a chance of sex simply by staying alive, keeping the females alive, and being friends with an alpha (even alphas need a break from fucking).

But the Internet is destroying betas. They play out their strategy virtually, watching alphas have sex with women, white knighting, and trying to be friendly and fit in. It's all the same except they have absolutely zero chance of mating with these women now.

It remains to be seen if we'll survive as a species long enough for this to significantly drive evolution, but it would certainly be fascinating to see it.
