Me; Would your wife know?
Bud; HA!!!!! I doubt she even knows we have a washing machine.
Me (to myself because you can't say these things out loud); Motherfucker, you work 50-60 hours a week in construction and your unemployed wife doesn't even do laundry?!?!?!

It breaks my heart to be honest. As I said, most of my buddies work in construction. They're welder/iron workers, carpenters, and scaffolders. They work ten to twelve hour days. And I'm around them and their homes enough to know that their wives, who either don't work at all or else are "hairdressers" who take maybe three appointments per week, do NOTHING around the house. My buds do the laundry and the dishes, they mow the lawn and shovel the driveway, they cut the firewood, they take the kids to hockey, ballet, and karate (or grandpa takes them when my bud is at work). The wife does NOTHING except spend money and then complain that there isn't enough of it. And then whenever we manage to all get together the wives seem to take great joy in making a competition of who call talk the most shit about their husband, calling him lazy and stupid. Oh yeah, Cheryl, Jake sure is lazy because he didn't jump up to mow the lawn the instant you told him to. Never mind the fact that he was in the middle of fixing the damn chainsaw. The chainsaw which he relies on to keep wood in the stove to prevent your ass from freezing to death, but can't replace with a newer and more reliable saw because you "needed" three new pairs of shoes and two purses this month! The lazy sod!!!
I think that's what irks me the most, that "wife rules everything" mindset that you mentioned. I've lived with most of these guys at one point or another and let me tell you, it was fine. We kept the house spotless, we cooked great meals, we HANDLED OUR SHIT. But as soon as a woman enters the picture they treat a man like he's a fucking idiot who needs to be told what to do at every turn. A married man can't make a plan like, "okay, this morning I'll mow the lawn, then I'll change the oil in the truck. Probably have lunch and then paint the shed. Then I'll wash the wife's car and fix the kid's bike. Might have time to go for a bike ride with the kid after supper, then I can split some more firewood and maybe... just maybe... go for a beer with my buddies." You just know that every five minutes the wife is going to come up with something she wants him to do instead, and bitch and complain until he does it. Never mind that he didn't sit down once all day... nope he's a lazy asshole because he didn't get around to doing laundry since he had a dozen more important things to do that day. But hey, you were doing the important job of sitting on the couch and looking at FakeBook. Couldn't expect you to do laundry now could we?
