Newsflash: All marriage is "settling" for one reason or another. People delude themselves into thinking that there are mystical cosmic "soul mates." Some people "settle" because their marriages are arranged. Others "settle" because they are lonely and desperate. Others "settle" because certain positive attributes a person has outweigh the negative attributes (with women, money is usually the positive attribute of most importance); other people "settle" for someone who is not a 8-10 but would make a good mother, etc. etc.

While I continue to believe modern marriage is a sham and do my best to steer young men away from it. My advice if you are going to marry is to find someone who is debt, disease, and kid free, who isn't ugly and/or insufferable, and is someone whom you trust/want to be with in the foxhole when the shit goes down.
