MGTOW, short for "Men Going Their Own Way" is not a group in that it's not a collective. The term "Men Going Their Own Way" is more of a description to identify individuals who have chosen to go down their own path against social norms.
Generally, those who fall under this umbrella term called "MGTOW" are walking away from long term relationships and marriage with women.
These men who are going their own way, being individuals, have their own reasons why they are choosing to abstain from these kinds of relationships with women.
The general view that people have of men who go their own way is that they've been burned by bad relationships and have just "given up" ...as it were.
Many men here have been through bad relationships of varying degrees, from those who have had their lives ruined by divorce and being separated from their children, to those who have had terrible relationships and feel wronged.
Many men here see that there are many laws that are clearly biased against men and that entering into a relationship is a dangerous gamble and choose to not gamble away their lives and happiness.
These men who have gone their own way have gathered all the evidence around them, from personal experiences and from the experiences of others as well as the current state of society and social structures and have decided that it is not for them.
MGTOW is not an activist organisation, there are no leaders, there is no collective group, it is just individuals who share a similar view of society and how it impacts them.
Men who choose to go their own way are moving away from these societal norms because it no longer benefits them in any way and only serves to hinder them.
Many men who start down this path tend to feel angered at what has been happening throughout their life time. Most choose to follow a path that leads them away from that anger because those societal norms no longer apply to them.
Because MGTOW is not a group, there is nothing to join. You have to decide for yourself if you no longer want to put time and effort into cultivating a long term relationship/marriage and what you want to do with your life.

As others have said, MGTOW is not a group or movement, it's a philosophy.

The objective is awareness.

MGTOW is a tacit recognition of human nature and an awareness of the consequences of this nature.

That's it...

Think of it like gravity instead of human nature.

Be aware of the nature of gravity and the potential consequences of gravity. Some will skydive because it's fun, but will take steps to reduce the risk of going splat. Some will just avoid skydiving altogether...

In our current societies marriage and relationships are like skydiving where there's a good chance your parachute won't open.

MGTOW tells you to pack your own parachute.

Not a guarantee you won't still go splat, just improving your odds.
