I idolize legendary commanders in military history like Rommel and Patton, because their logical thinking and their ability to get inside their adversary's head was remarkable. Same with Admiral Yamamoto of IJN, who knew early on that the US would definitely win the War in the Pacific if it was dragged on for a long time. His only failure imo was the Battle of Midway, where the US intelligence was remarkable in successfully figuring out and thwarting the Japanese carrier fleet.

Men gush over athletes cuz many men want to be them, ignoring the risks and odds of mot being the Lebron.

Women gush over musicians because I’m told they mimic masculine traits yet still being feminine appearing. Going in front of a crowd potentially humilating yourself to millions so and so forth.

Good question and psychologically really complex to grasp.

Going crazy for a certain band or a guy in particular usually starts at the age of ~11. That's at least how it was with me and my friends and all the other girls I've known since then. So at an age that young it's not sexual in a mature way. It's about liking certain features in how someone looks or how they move or how they dress or whatever. In any other aspect of your life, you're still just a kid with absolutely no sexual desires whatsoever. At around ~14 your view on this might change a little into something more sexual as in fantasizing about the guy. The only thing that makes this comfortable is that you'll most likely never meet him. This gives you a safe space coz you don't want actual intimacy, you can rely on the distance. There are some early bloomers who start having irl intimacy at this age but they're usually not the girls who go absurdly crazy for famous bands. Guys and girls this age have a different mentality approaching sexuality. Girls are being told it might hurt the first time which definitely lowers the motivation to start exploring. Plus they have to literally open up to someone which costs an enormous amount of trust that is hard to earn. So they stick with the fantasy and invest a lot of emotion and time drooling over someone they'll never be face to face with coz it feels safe. What they're actually doing is letting their brain rewire itself during puberty. Once they're done maturing the craze will fade. Some take longer than others, but most will eventually get there.

Tldr: A fantasy can't hurt you, can't pressure you into doing something you're unsure of and is a safe catalyst for all these weird emotions and desires during puberty.
